Recently have you ever noticed those red lanterns in the street or the small logo of chicken in the APP messenger ? Do you know what does it mean ? It is the Chinese Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) !
Certain dishes are eaten during the Chinese New Year for their symbolic meaning, which is believed to bring good luck for the coming year. The auspicious symbolism of these foods is based on their pronunciations or appearance. Fish, dumplings, spring rolls, sweet rice balls (Tangyuan), longevity noodles are included. So what do these chinese people drink during the meal ?
First, Baijiu ! It is a traditional white spirits in China with a high alcool. Then white wine is supposed to match the fish and spring rolls, a Riesling from Alsace would be perfect ! Red Bordeaux wine with such a good reputation in China would often be seen in the table, to match the meat dishs. Then a sweet wine with low alcool such as Italien Moscato d'Asti would be appriciated by the women and young generation...
Cheers to our chinese friend !
